Quick Navigation
What is Digital Dentistry?
The term Digital Dentistry refers to the use of computer software and sensors to diagnose, plan, execute and maintain dental treatment digitally. Traditionally, many dental procedures have depended upon the use of manual impressions, X-Rays and machines for fabrication. To the contrary, in the Digital Workflow process, intra-oral scanners, 3D images, CAD/CAM and surgical guides are all used to create an efficient workflow that enhances care, improves accuracy and enhances the patient experience.
Our Digital Dentistry Services
At ToothWorks, we offer a wide range of services that leverage digital technology. Some of the key services include:
- Digital Impressions: This service utilizes an intraoral scanner to create a 3 dimensional (3D) digital map of the patient’s teeth and oral structures. The process is fast, clean, and typically more comfortable than traditional impressions. Digital impressions are utilized in our digital workflow to facilitate the creation of restorations, aligners and more.
- 3D Imaging & CBCT Scans - to obtain complex diagnostic information related to implants, bone x-rays, root canals and surgical planning, we can view your anatomy in great detail and effectively and safely plan the procedures necessary for you.
- Digital Smile Design & Treatment Simulation - Want to see your future smile? We use digital smile design software to visualize your ideal outcome. We map your face, teeth and lips and then propose the best aesthetic solution.
- Guided Implant Surgery & Digital Prosthetics - digital planning allows accurate placement of implants via minimally invasive surgical procedures resulting in comfort during surgical placement. Digital implants are assured perfect fit and performance characteristics for the long term.
- Digital Records & Communication - All your dental data, scans, models, and images are stored digitally. This means easier monitoring, faster treatment planning, and better communication between you, your dentist and the lab.
Our Digital Workflow — What to Expect
- Consultation & Digital Scan - We will start by taking a digital scan and images of your mouth (if applicable). You will be presented with a three-dimensional model of your mouth, and the doctor will describe what is being seen.
- Treatment Plans - We can show you a variety of different ways to treat your teeth, often including digital models and simulations of what those options would look like when completed.
- Design & Fabrication - Your restoration or prosthetic will be designed and fabricated using advanced computer-aided design (CAD) technologies and three-dimensional printing at a very high level of accuracy and quickly.
- Placement & Finishing - Once the restoration has been put in place, it will be adjusted to fit correctly (if needed) and completed. You will experience very little discomfort, while your appointment times will generally be shorter now than when you previously received your restoration.
- Follow-Up & Digital Monitoring - We keep a record of your digital impressions to track how your restoration or implant is doing; tracking your restoration over time allows us to provide you with proactive care.
By streamlining the entire process from start to finish, you‘ve received high-quality care with less time in our office, very little discomfort, and predictable results.

FAQ's
Will the digital process be comfortable?
Yes. For example, by using a digital scanner, the conventional method of taking an impression using a mix of putty and plaster has been replaced. Also, digital scanning is generally quicker than traditional 2D scans and emits considerably less radiation than older methods.
How long will it take?
The availability of same-day or next-day restorations (depending on case complexity) is now possible thanks to the implementation of digital workflows. We‘ll discuss your case‘s approximate completion date at the time of your consultation.
Is it safe?
Digital dentistry is based on sound protocols and uses scientific evidence. The accuracy of digital dentistry is enhanced, the likelihood of complications is diminished, and the predictability of treatment is increased.
Can I see how my smile will look beforehand?
With the tools associated with digital smile design and digital smile simulation, you will be able to see what your smile will look like and participate in the decision–making process for your treatment plan.
